Terms of use

These terms are an agreement between you and Market Mojo LLC for the use of Civic Atlas: the website, the web app and the Android app. By creating an account or using the service you accept them, together with the privacy policy, the disclaimer and the copyright notice.

1. Who may use it

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, and able to make a binding agreement.

2. Your account

Keep your sign-in private and tell us at once if you think someone else has used it. Your member number is personal to you. One membership is for one person; accounts may not be shared.

3. Membership and payment

• Memberships are bought on the website through Stripe. The price and billing period are shown before you pay, with any tax.
• A membership renews at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time under My account (Manage billing); access continues to the end of the period already paid.
• A period already begun is not refunded, except where the law where you live requires it or we agree in writing. If you were charged in error, write to us and we will put it right.
• If the price changes, members are told by email before the change applies to their next period.
• The Android app is for signing in to a membership and sells nothing.

4. What you may do

Search, read and cite the records for your own research, teaching and writing. You may quote individual records, with their citations and the original's holder, in your own work.

5. What you may not do

• Copy, download in bulk, scrape, resell, republish or redistribute the data set or substantial parts of it;
• Use it to train or build another database, service or artificial intelligence model;
• Get around sign-in, membership or security measures, or probe, overload or interfere with the service;
• Copy, decompile or reverse engineer the software, except where the law allows it;
• Use the service unlawfully or to harass anyone.

6. Facts and corrections you add

Contributions must be your own work or properly cited, with the source and where the original is held, and must not infringe anyone's rights. You keep your rights in them and give Market Mojo LLC a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, permanent licence to review, edit, publish, credit and decline them as part of Civic Atlas and the book series. Nothing you add is shown to members until an editor has checked it.

7. Ownership

The compilation, its arrangement, the statistics, the narrative text, the software and the design belong to Market Mojo LLC and Thomas M. Saharsky, as set out in the copyright notice. These terms give you no other rights in them.

8. Other services

Links to Google Maps, Chronicling America, the National Archives and other services lead to sites run by others under their own terms. We are not responsible for them.

9. Disclaimer and limit of liability

The service is provided as described in the disclaimer, "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, Market Mojo LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, and its total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid for your membership in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits a right you have as a consumer that the law does not allow to be limited.

10. Suspension and ending

You may close your account at any time under My account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, after notice where reasonable. If we stop offering the service, we will give members at least 30 days' notice and refund any unused paid period.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. Members are told by email at least 30 days before a change that affects them takes effect; continuing to use the service after that date means accepting it.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Market Mojo LLC is organized, without affecting the mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live. Before any formal claim, write to us at marketmojowi@gmail.com so we can try to settle it.
